Welcome

It is time we became aware of so many who need us so much. As of last year Homeless United became Homeless United International. One focus of Homeless Aid the Concert in Monterey will be to make people around the world – leaders and individuals aware that more than one billion people are without adequate shelter. Most of these are women and children. Many die – every night. Some have said the problem is so great, we cannot even begin to make a difference. We can. With God, by whatever name, whatever perception, or even those believing in nothing, we all can make a difference, starting this moment – to help others -help themselves. John Bell U.S. Veteran

For those in the United States you can find food, shelter, or a job in less than 5 clicks of your mouse or touch screen presses on your smart phone or other communications device.  Feed Me now goes directly to the food bank map site. Thank you for setting up this service and all the work you have done keeping the page up and current. There were 5,000 comments and now there are more than 7,000 just in a short time. Thank you for visiting and hope to see you at the concert – if somehow we can do this.

Homeless Aid Concert 2016

April 8, 2016

Just posted on Margaret Cho’s Facebook page asking her to come to the Give Me Shelter (Homeless Aid) concert. After watching one of her videos I came to learn that she was very close to Robin Williams.

Also, I sent another email to the agent of Phil Collins even though he has written me tell me that he really is doing large concerts anymore.

I have been praying for days, and many others across the United States have told me they are praying and with us in trying to do this. I feel so small and insignificant and not knowing how much longer I will live, yet I share both Margaret Cho and Robin William’s (who we have lost) passion to help. I didn’t know what to do. It was late, I was exhausted and I kept praying… and then I was on Showtime and saw Margaret Cho’s video and also how she told how dear Robin was to her and went to Congress to try and plead for the Homeless shown speaking in the video below to Senator Edward Kennedy.

Now I would like to include comedians as well as musicians to make the concert an event which will raise awareness around the world. Do like this page and as we get together our staff and helpers to make this happen contact me.

Going to see if can clear the name “Give Me Shelter” for the concert. Tell you, some days feels like the sky is coming down on my head,  and for my friends, my family, the woman I love – the whole world. Once more with feeling- if I don’t get some shelter, I’m gonna fade away…

America, we have a problem.

After serving in the Georgia Legislature, in 1992, Cynthia McKinney won a seat in the US House of Representatives. She was the first African-American woman from Georgia in the US Congress. In 2005, McKinney was a vocal critic of the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina and was the first member of Congress to file articles of impeachment against George W. Bush. In 2008, Cynthia McKinney won the Green Party nomination for the US presidency.

Cynthia McKinney: It’s hard to imagine that the country that controls so much nuclear firepower and drops so many bombs every day is unwilling to educate its children and house its own people.

The poor have been with us since there was an “us.” And, as much as I would like to see zero poverty in the United States, a country that spends trillions on its domestic and international security apparatuses, I know that the political will for such policies is just not there today. This, despite the efforts of thousands of people just like me all over the country to alleviate the unnecessary suffering of the poor in the US. Instead, it has become clear from the rhetoric of the 2016 Presidential campaigns, that it is easier to preen oneself by boasting of increasing such security spending, and almost never to decrease it. Not even Democratic Party Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders discusses cutting back on military spending and cutting weapons systems. Thus, we can have a Presidential election and not one word is uttered about the criminalization of the poor and now the crisis of homelessness that afflicts a growing number of cities on the west coast of the US.

comment: We are trying to make America and also the world more aware of the problem. To do the concert in June it will take many miracles. We are reaching out to everyone – also musicians, celebrities, and anyone who can help us in this to make it happen. Even well wishes, prayers, and positive thoughts – help us to help others – help themselves. J.B. HUI – Give Me Shelter – Homeless Aid Concert

On Monday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch issued a stern order to state court officials to stop, forthwith, targeting poor and homeless people and throwing them in jail for being too poor to pay fines for the crime of being too poor to have a place to live. In repeating what President Obama said about a year ago, the Justice Department reminded the state courts that the criminalizing poverty and homelessness is patently unconstitutional, and took special exception to sending the poor to debtors prison; a practice that A.G. Loretta Lynch said “was entirely profit motivated and unusually burdensome on the poor.”

In the strongly worded letter to court chief justices and administrators, the head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Vanita Gupta and Lisa Foster of the Office for Access to Justice leveled some harsh criticism against state judicial and law enforcement officials for arresting and jailing the poor as a revenue generating source. The letter said in part,

In addition to being unlawful, to the extent that these practices are geared not toward addressing public safety, but rather toward raising revenue, they cast doubt on the impartiality of the tribunal and erode trust between local governments and their constituents.”

The DOJ got involved after finding that the justice system in Ferguson Missouri “consistently set maximizing revenue as the priority” in arresting and fining the poor to “trap those individuals in a perpetual cycle of poverty.” Gupta and Foster continued that, like in Ferguson, law enforcement and courts nationwide are out of line in forcing “poor individuals into escalating debt, to lose their jobs, face unnecessary and repeated incarceration despite posing no danger to the community; and become trapped in inescapable cycles of poverty.”

Much thanks to the new people here and want to share this with you. Veterans need help too. Some can’t find jobs no matter how hard they look and need help to help themselves. Thank God there are some caring young people who have good hearts and are joining to do something about those who need them. You never know about people – sometimes those who should be caring aren’t and other times – our youth and the young can teach lessons to us all.

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget how you made them feel.

What an amazing and kinetic person. They are supportive of our concert and yet there were other things we talked about. In many states and large cities it has become a crime to be homeless. Some are even talking about a Homeless Bill of Rights. Are there certain basic rights we as humans have to prevent us from situations that go beyond Cruel and Unusual Punishment?

We spoke of how to make people aware and who could help make this concert happen? Musicians – actors – actresses – celebrities. There are some who already have spoken up for this cause and somehow we must reach them.

Criminalizing homelessness exacerbates poverty, advocates argue.

The U.S. Department of Justice argued earlier this week that banning people from sleeping on the streets of Boise, Idaho, is “cruel and unusual punishment” that violates the Constitution.

In a statement of interest filed in an Idaho district court, the DOJ argued: “If a person literally has nowhere else to go, then enforcement of the anti-camping ordinance against that person criminalizes her for being homeless.”

While the DOJ claims this violates the Eighth Amendment’s protections against cruel and unusual punishment, the statement does not have any binding powers.

The City of Boise disagreed and argued that it should be able to enforce the ban when there are beds available in its shelter system, adding that they are usually fully equipped to shelther people that are homeless, Al Jazeera reported.

RELATED: The Myths of US Exceptionalism

Official estimates from 2014, however, indicate there were about 153,000 people left sleeping on the street in the U.S. on any given night.

The number of people without shelter has increased since the economic recession, with a 12 percent spike in the last two years in Los Angeles alone.

Minority groups are disproportionately affected by poverty and homelesness. An estimated 20-40 percent of homeless youth are transgender, gay, lesbian or bisexual, according to the National Center for Transgender Equality. Black families on the other hand are seven times more likely than their white counterparts to seek refuge in a homeless shelther, the Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homelessness found.

Thanks to all of you that follow my timeline and the websites on here and especially my friends on Facebook. I have added very few new friends over the last year and I do value those I have and do not want to spam you to come and like this page – but we could use your support. I just got off the phone to Allison at the Monterey Fairgrounds and Homeless Aid will no long be just a concert – It now is to become a Rock Festival for several days. We may have dozens of artists performing and honestly – at this moment I am pretty overwhelmed. It has been said – be careful what you wish for… well be careful what you pray for – God may decide to say yes – and I believe this is going to happen. I am connecting with people to take over in case my health falters and yet somehow – I believe together – with others that care – we can do this.   If you have a rock group and can draw people to promote our message of helping the homeless – contact me. A Rock Festival – imagine – I know someone who will definitely be there – you may not see him or her or whatever form you believe in – but they will be there – and it will be – a miracle. I am posting one of my favorite videos about faith and seizing the day – whatever one may believe – now is the only time we have – and those who love us – we have only now to share that with. Seize the Day.

Monday – March 7, 2016 9 am PST

Just spoke to Megan Hustings at NCH and they have been are doing some amazing things to advocate and help the homeless both locally and politically in trying to “decriminalize” the “cruel and unusual punishment” which may a basic violation of the human rights of those without shelter who cannot help falling asleep and have nowhere to do so.We spoke of the need to increase public awareness of the situation and while many groups for decades have addressed this, it is becoming a greater and greater problem, especially in large cites. Many who have been at this for a long time still with great energy work daily to deal with new ways to help. NCH is one of them and I appreciate the time and energy to try and work with Homeless United International to “help others help themselves” JB

Please post comments here – Trying to catch up on a backlog of more than 7,000 comments. Also we have installed Captcha, so thank you for enduring a bit of this when posting so we have a cleaner advertizement free site.

Now the Feed Me and also Give Me Shelter links work fast and well.  Sent an email to Phil Collins agent in London and still trying to get Mr. Collins to do the Homeless Aid Concert. Today will be a lot of activity calling about and contacting people as time grows shorter until June 15, 2016.

Sunday – March 6, 2016

Today the page has a new look and work hard to get things fixed as we renew with strength and determination to help the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and those trying find jobs.  Still working on fine tuning the food map so I will include the direct link which will add and extra click or push on your smart screen.  One day at at time to make ready for the Summer Homeless Aid Concert. Also there are over 7,800 comments to try and catch up on which is no small challenge – ‘cos I’m only human – I can do it… It is much more than about individuals. Most of the homeless are women and children and many are families.

“We are all only human – and we are all doing the best we can
But I’m only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I’m only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
‘Cause I’m only human.

No one person or even a nation can hope to solve the current crisis in humanity around the world. It is a personal choice by each individual how much or how little they will help to do to aid those who who have little or nothing. We can try to make people more aware around the world of the problem and hope some will step forward, from all walks of life, from the least to the greatest, and try and help in some way. It is from the least of us, those who are poor and also in the worst health, with the least time left on this planet, that can come some of the most heart felt and meaningful simple actions to make a difference. We are trying to put together a concert to make people aware. That is the first step to the solution. For the world to know how bad the problem really is.

Over one billion people now have inadequate shelter. Most of these are women and children.

March 3, 2016  – Update

It’s time to get read for the Summer Concert Homeless Aid as well as change the look and feel of HUI. We are all a little human and we are able to reach and gain support of more organizations globally – the challenges of providing solutions to those who are homeless and looking for shelter, jobs, and food are considerable.

For coming Spring – March 1, 2016

Once more the plans for the Homeless Aid concert are back on schedule. We have interfaced with several more national as well as international groups and look forward to help to bring more awareness to the problem of homelessness, poverty, and especially here on this website – a way you can find shelter, food, or jobs anywhere in the United States.

For Christmas – December 25, 2015  – Update

Once again the Homeless Aid concert is back on schedule.
The work continues on our website where those in the United States can find food, shelter, and jobs in 5 clicks of their mouse or presses on their cell phones – new and easier menus – December  2015 – JB – U.S. Veteran – Rainy and I continue together and I am putting up where find computers to access this site for free. No one person, or even a few, can save the world, but together we can make it better. Work continues on the Homeless Aid concert. We may need to reschedule the concert due to the many health issues I have had and the need for more support and help in trying to  do this.

News: December 13, 2015 -Criminalizing homelessness is not the answer to the problem.

News: December 7, 2015 – I was able to contact Phil Collins agent and still am trying hard to make the Homeless Aid Concert a reality in the Spring.  With over a 7,200 comment backlog doing our best catch up. Most of them are on the pages – Give Me Shelter – Feed Me – etc –  Thank you for your interest and support of Homeless United International and the Concert

from Jordan 11:

I would like to get across my passion for your kindness giving support to those people that really need help with the issue. Your personal dedication to getting the message throughout appeared to be definitely insightful and have surely encouraged regular people just like me to reach their aims. This invaluable tips and hints indicates so much to me and extremely more to my mates. Many thanks; from each one of us.

thank you

John Bell – Homeless United – Homeless Aid Concert – I do not know from day to day about the world and all that is happening. There are wars and conflict and yet – the poor are always with us. Each day over a billion people wake up and do not have adequate food or shelter. This site and the work of Homeless United began when a world feel apart and I found myself sleeping in the dirt with no shelter and no food. I will never forget that or the small graveyard in San Jose in a patch of dirt with tags on it and who died in the streets. Many of these are veterans who fought and died – many of them are unknown – and were deserted by their families and loved ones. Beyond race, religion, sexual orientation, or place people live in the world – we need to help those who are dying and have nowhere to go.  Within 5 clicks of your mouse or presses on your phone or device – you can find food in the U.S. if you are there, shelter, and help

comment: One should never give up no matter how hopeless things are or stop accepting the responsibility for our life and how only we ourselves can change it. One person can never truly help another and that is why Homeless United is about “Helping people to help themselves.” Not charity, a handout, judgment, or putting people in boxes or telling them what they must do. You know what to do to make your life better. Inside there is a person that is intelligent, aware, and there is only one time you have to do anything – the only person that can do it is you- and the only time you will ever have is now.

One need never accept a fundamental state of unhappiness. Happiness is inside and never dependent on what surrounds us. What we have is never based on what we have lost. What we know is never based on what we have forgotten. The future is not the result of the past, for the past is only a prelude to that which can never be predicted. Life is precious and you have it. Enjoy it. It is the greatest gift of all.

Subject: Homeless Aid Concert in Monterey

I very much would ask to help me in this. Carol said he was no longer Phil Collin’s agent. We are trying to put together a concert for the homeless and while I was told that Phil Collins does not do regular concerts anymore – we need him. If only for 2 hours – just to do one long set or two – it would help to make the world aware of the homeless who I once was and nearly died. I made a promise after open heart surgery to do whatever I could.

They are marching for the homeless all over the world and on March 8, 2015 in Dublin, Ireland March for the Homeless continues. World leaders from everywhere are watching and we can save millions of lives. Thank you for reading and you may call me. Just say “This is Tony” and I will know it is you.

I talked to the coordinator for the Monterey Fairgrounds – Allison Edwards and she told me besides August 22- they might be able to do August the 8th or 9th. I so hope Phil will do this – and know it will make a difference. Thank you for your time and I am not that well. We all live day by day. I truly believe this concert would be an historical event. It will help start Homeless United which for the first time will give a voice to the homeless like the unions did to labor. There is growing political backing on this as well as celebrities – we are in the Carmel area. Thank you again.

Update 9/7/15 – Whenever someone tries to do something this much it is a great challenge. To do this – somehow will take not one, but many miracles. Please pray for us – this is not just for America- but for all in the world – including the refugees that have no home and are truly the homeless who not only do not have a home – but a country.

August 9, 2015 Sunday 2:00 p.m PST

Update – I just got out of the hospital for heart issues but I am still trying to get the concert together. Homelessness is not about one religion, race, politics, sex, or age. It is independent of culture. Most people claiming to believe in God or an organized religion usually are concerned about those with no food or shelter – and even though who may not believe in God still care about others and have done much in their lives to help their family and friends. Now, it is time to reach out to the world and confront a problem that is  global. Another word for the a homeless person  is refugee.

http://www.euronews.com/2013/06/19/world-refugee-day/

According to the UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR) the number of people currently in situations of displacement has hit 45 million, the highest figure for 14 years. The worrying news was announced just a day before World Refugee Day, which is held annually on June 20th.

refugees

Yet still over one billion people are without adequate shelter. People talk of the hardship of wandering about in a city while some are without homes living in  the desert with no water, no food, no sanitary facilities and many  living in constant fear for their lives. This is a problem that cannot be dealt with by worldwide organization or charity.

Event: A concert for the benefit of the Homeless in America similar to the Monterey Rock Festival held here at the fairgrounds. It will be called the Farm Aid Concert. The current target date is October 15, 2015 and it is estimated at least 3,000 people or more will attend.

Contact information updated. You can now reach me at homelessunited@yahoo.com. The team will meet tomorrow to begin the challenging task of trying to plan the Homeless Aid concert. Reviewing we are seeking support from celebrities, politicians, and musicians to play at the concert. Seeing as my health is not the best and currently I am facing some extreme challenges in my life, I need to pass this to as many people who can carry on with it, if I cannot.  More attention needs to be brought to the homeless situation which effects more than a billion people and over 100,000,000 who do not have adequate food or shelter. For more than 30 years it has continued to worsen with violent military outbreaks and refugees fleeing into places with no water or food. If there were a war to be declared, it would be one against homelessness. Since both wars declared against drugs and terrorism have not gone that well, perhaps one simply to feed the hungry and provide shelter to the homeless might be the first we can win in this century. This is not one that can be done by a small group or even a single country. The approach and willingness to put differences aside, even all out war, and peacefully interact is the only real solution. Homelessness is not American – it is global.

No young person should lack a stable and safe home, or be without a caring adult they can count on. Too many of America’s youth have been robbed of that essential foundation — and thanks to the extraordinary work of practitioners and volunteers across the country, we are learning what it takes to reestablish that footing and end youth homelessness nationwide.

Too many of America’s youth have been robbed of that essential foundation — and thanks to the extraordinary work of practitioners and volunteers across the country, we are learning what it takes to reestablish that footing and end youth homelessness nationwide.

In 2012, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) issued the Framework to End Youth Homelessness detailing the steps necessary to achieve the goal of ending youth homelessness by 2020, and strategies to improve outcomes for children and youth experiencing homelessness. This framework articulates the need for government, non-profit, civic, and faith community partners to focus together on the overall well-being of youth experiencing homelessness — addressing not just their need for stable housing, but also their educational and employment goals, and the importance of permanent adult connections in their lives.

Message in a Bottle

To Phil Collins via personal agent

It would be truly a miracle for the homeless if you could do a set on August 22, 2015 in Monterey. I am Vietnam Veteran, Phil, over 60, and trying with the help of many to do this. *******, at an agency, first said you were not doing regular concerts anymore, and I just could not give up. This so needs to happen. If somehow you could be there for one hour – it could be as significant as the Farm Aid concert may years ago in Monterey.

I was homeless, Phil and nearly died in the streets. People reached out and helped me and I made a promise that somehow, someway, if I lived, I would start Homeless United and make the world aware.  March for Homeless on Facebook is starting demonstrations all over the world and we need to get all countries we can involved – all religions – globally to create another day in Paradise – for over 100,000,000 who suffer.

May God touch you heart and make you know I am genuine and sincere and it would take a lot to make this happen. Thank you to your agent and friend for your time.  I am sure you must be tired as I am- but this perhaps would change the world – even just a little.

Work continues as we have found venue and date for the concert. There are still many challenges. Try to coordinate with the local homeless work in Monterrey and talked to Kelly :

Nice to speak with you today. Thank you for using your energy and talents on behalf of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Shelter Outreach Plus is Monterey County’s largest provider of homeless transitional housing and emergency shelter beds. We house an average of over 200 persons nightly in our 10 programs located across the county.

Planning for Homeless Aid – a concert to be held in August at the Monterey Fairgrounds continues and would like all to know this is a very ambitious effort we will need a lot of support, prayers, and help to make this happen. Once again – like to make people aware of Shelter Outreach Plus who I just spoke to and their work in the Monterey area and shelters. They are providing special resources for abused women and their children – as well as food and shelter for the homeless.

Efforts to put together the Homeless Aid concert in Monterey this Summer continue. It is quite a challenge and we will need  the help and support of many people, local, government, celebrities, musicians, and everyone who cares and wants to make the world aware of the problem. Demonstrations from March for the Homeless

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=883393205040038&video_source=pages_finch_trailer

will be happening around the world in the next month

BOSTON —On Sunday May 17th, the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance will hold their 30th Annual Walk+Run for the Homeless, beginning at Elm Park in Worcester.

The event will be hosted by WALK Co-Chairs Kevin O’Sullivan; President and CEO of Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives and Father John Madden of Saint John’s  Parish in Worcester.

There are many faiths in the world – Catholics – Protestants – Muslim – Buddhist – Hindu – Pagan – Wiccan – and those who do not believe in God or are not sure. Whatever your belief, or race, or country, or gender, or sexual preference – we are brothers and sisters and what happens to least of us, effects us all. The world leaders as well as those who fight for whatever they fight – watch – and every one of them has someone they love who is poor and often homeless. Putting all differences aside – even war and conflict that has raged for thousands of years – we need to- as human beings – have compassion for the hungry, disabled, elderly, and poor and those who have nothing and sleep on the ground and pray or hope for a better life. If there were a war we should fight with great courage and honor – it would be the War on Poverty

Work continues to try to put together some type of benefit concert for the Homeless in in Monterey.  Perhaps Monterey, California.Media is perhaps one the most powerful and effective tools – even more than politics to create change in our world. If we can touch the hearts and minds of billions of people and make them realize that suddenly they could find themselves and their families with little to eat and nowhere to sleep, they will care and work with us to do something about it. The plight of the homeless haunts my dreams and has for decades. Having walked the walk and slept in the dirt and walked for miles finally for a hot meal, a shower, and just one night to sleep and then try to talk to people who could help me.  In the U.S. there are camps and thousands of refugees who live in dire poverty, disease and women and children are the largest group to suffer and die no food or shelter. We are perhaps not our brothers keeper, but we can be angels who walk the earth, though imperfect and some disabled hardly able to lift a spoon, still help those through supporting the strong in body and youth – who can.

Mr. President – hoping you will read this and continue programs as I have seen put into motion.

For their determination to put an end to veterans living on the streets, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will receive the highest honor given to homeless advocates.

The Obamas were chosen to get this year’s Jerald Washington Memorial Founders’ Award, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), and Barack Obama is the first person — in history — to receive the award more than once.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…/veteran-homelessness-barack…

May we not only have concern for our own nation – but for the nations of the world and places torn by war and extreme violence leaving millions wandering with little food and no shelter. Not the least of these Africa, recently hit hard with Ebola and now torn by inner conflict. Hoping you would consider appearing if we can organize some sort of concert in Monterrey or at least give us support in doing so and the other work. I know what it is to be homeless, a veteran, and none should be left behind – as in battle – so in the country we return to- may we never be forgotten.

J.B. U.S. Veteran – Vietnam

Those of you who wish to support the continuing work to help – please do call the President – your congress people – and make your voice heard. Some are still listening and will try and do whatever they can to introduce bills in congress and the Senate to set up new programs and continue to help the poor and the homeless.

April 1, 2015 – Spring – Special Edition

Thank you for visiting our web page. For more than 3 years the dream of setting hope the organization to help the poor and  has continued and actually since at 7 years old I was taken by my friend Bryan Rawson in “Jesus Saves” Team Ministries in San Jose, California. Bryan’s who we later lost to cancer, was a preacher and helped those people his whole life.  This particular shelter has a rather special meaning to me. When I was doing well I gave a lot of money to help and my time. When I was not doing well – I experienced one of the most degrading and traumatic experiences one can ever know and found shelter here.

Thanks to God, who spared my life, as my heart failed and I was rushed into open heart surgery and after quite a few minutes of no vital signs given a Second Life and new chance to help the poor and the homeless.  Medclinician /DrKarl Hammand. Special thanks to Free Spirit who in her way – found me wandering in the abyss of the mind and stood by me as I healed and because of her faith, her love, and her strength and courage – taught me a new way of seeing the world. Her faith in Jesus, and love of children and her family – that all were equal and how to teach others – to help themselves.

Homeless United – Highland Retreat- Scotland- Second Life

March 16, 2015 – Hard Times and separation

Free Spirit lost her internet but work continues both in Second Life, in real life, and continue the efforts to bring food and shelter to all, especially the disabled, the elderly, and veterans. The scope of this has now become global and I am often asked how in the world can so few people hope to make any kind of a difference. Well, we both believe in God and that in our lives we can help others and we should try and do so. Jesus was a simple, humble, poor, and he was not handsome.

It is in Isaiah 53:2  He hath no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He was poor, a carpenter’s son who grew up in Nazareth and when he came back to teach there, some of those who grew up with him could not accept him as being the Messiah. He knew his scripture and could debate in the temple at 12 years old, but had no formal education. Peter, one of his closest disciples was a fisherman, and Jesus once said to him when he declared him the Christ “thou art Peter (a stone) and upon this rock (your faith) I will build my church.

The scholars of the time and priests ridiculed him and it was their jealousy of him that resulted in him being crucified. He was beaten, spit on, scourged, and nailed to a cross and stripped of his robe which they cast lots for.

He is not like  the man so handsome in the movies and he was dark skinned and probably had curly hair though longer. Yet people flocked to him by the thousands and as one centurion stood as the earth shook and the sky was dark at midday said “Truly, this was the son of God.”

So what then did he tell us? To love God with all our heart, and soul and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves. In this was fulfilled all of the law and the prophets.

We were told to feed the poor, to give them clothes, to share our homes, to take care of the widows, the lame, the blind, those who needed others and most of all. I was told once- would you try to be like Jesus?  You are nothing – he was the son of God?  Yes, we should… try. Perhaps we may fail every single day and have to ask for forgiveness and hang our head in shame at how far we are from the mark- but we should try. We take up our cross and follow him daily. Χριστιανός, οῦ, ὁ – to be Christlike- to walk in the shoes of the Fisherman- to be fishers of men and women.

If he came today in a church or to a telecast ministry where would they seat him and how would he be treated? Or would he be one of us – just a stranger on the bus- trying to find his way home?

March 8, 2015 – The Rebirth of Homeless United – as it becomes Global

homelessunitedinternationalroom

Helping People Help Themselves.

Up to 100 million people are homeless throughout the world, the majority of them women and dependent children.

The problem is not just homelessness. Overall, at least 600 million people — again, most of them women and dependent children — live in shelters that are life threatening or health threatening in developing world cities.

Every day, some 50,000 people, mostly women and children, die as a result of poor shelter, polluted water and inadequate sanitation. Some 70 million women and children live in homes where smoke from cooking fires damages their health.

Of the estimated 1.3 billion people living in poverty around the world, 70 percent are women and girls. Women and girls are also the fastest increasing group of impoverished, a process called “the global feminization of poverty.”

India is one of the few developing countries that has tried to count its homeless, finding more than 2.3 million. Western Europe, on the other hand, counts just 6,300 homeless.

The percentage of squatter housing, almost always substandard and likely to be headed by women, also shows housing problems in developing countries, especially in cities. Some 5.5 percent of Turkey’s households are squatters but 23.3 percent of all households in the capital of Ankara are squatters. In Peru, 5.6 percent of all households are squatters, but 8.1 percent of households in the capital of Lima are squatters.

Other reasons for female homelessness include:

Women have few or no property rights in many parts of the world. Many women of the world are barred, mostly by custom but sometimes by law, from inheriting or owning the homes in which they live, condemning them and their children to poverty and destitution. Women comprise more than 50 percent of the world’s population, but they own only one percent of the world’s wealth, United Nation statistics say.
The sharp increase of households headed by women. Some 33 percent of families globally are headed by women, but 45 to 50 percent of households in some African and Latin American countries are headed by women.
Women are much less likely to have steady employment than men, and working women are lower paid, including those in industrial countries. In France and Belgium, women earn about three-quarters of the average male wage, and in Japan, only about half. In Singapore, women earn the equivalent of 72 percent of men’s wages; in Hong Kong, 63 percent; in the Republic of Korea, 57 percent.
Some 75 percent of the world’s women cannot get formal bank loans because they lack permanent employment and title deeds to land or housing that they can offer as security, or because the laws of their countries classify them as minors, not eligible to make legal transactions.
Of the 23 million refugees, and 27 million internal displaced (within their own countries) worldwide, some 70-80 percent are women and children.
In order to investigate and develop workable solutions for the world’s cities, the United Nations General Assembly has called for the global conference named Habitat II. It is the last major UN global conference of the century. Some 20,000 participants from governments, the private sector, non-government organizations and international agencies will participate in Habitat II

Women’s Health Directly Tied to Housing

The United Nation estimates that if all housing could be brought to a minimum acceptable standard, there would be five million fewer deaths and two million fewer permanent disabilities annually on a global basis.
It is estimated that one in four of the world’s population does not have access to clean drinking water and that in many developing countries, about 50 percent of the urban population does not have water within 200 meters of their dwelling.

In the least developed countries, 53 percent lack access to water, and in Sub-Saharan Africa, the figure goes as high as 59 percent. Some countries such as Congo have as much as 80 percent without access to safe water.

In such situations, it is generally the women and older girls who have to provide water. In some parts of rural Africa, women have to use as much as 85 percent of their daily energy intake in fetching water. In these regions, 40 percent of non-pregnant women and 63 percent of pregnant women are anemic (due to a combination of poor diet and heavy work loads).

Our mission:

Through a computer simulation called http://mysecondlife.com and my experiences in life I became painfully aware of the tragedy of the elderly, the poor, and the homeless. Now it is time to give back the love, the caring, and the friendship of so many who helped me. My brothers and sisters who shared what I endured, I will never forget you.

The work continues on building this site and we are using a lot of links to established data bases. The idea here is not to start asking for money or donations, or creating a job base for the organization, it is to give hungry and homeless people help. A massive amount of work lays before us in this work of trying to provide a website easy to use and find food, shelter, and jobs in minutes throughout America. The greater work of setting up HUO (Homeless United Organization) can be one as those who feel the calling and desire to help us in the work, contact us and join us to set up training centers throughout the U.S. and places to provide housing and resources to those who truly wish to help themselves.

HomelessMainImage

Where once the homeless population of America included people with substance problems, the mentally ill, those trapped within the criminal justice system, and many who simply did not wish to work, this is no longer true. Now people who have had homes for years are losing them. People who had health care no longer have it and many of those without jobs are not even counted for they have simply given up looking all together.

Hello, my name is John and I became homeless after losing a job and also a business with little warning and just bad things happening one after the other.

In the U.S., resources and money for dealing with the Homeless is no longer a real priority as opposed to other greater issues. It is not only the older people who are in poor health that begin to fall through the safety nets, but young families, some of them military veterans who have served our country and protected it are found dead on a blanket, sleeping in the bushes and have been forgotten. Many have  reached point of depression and hopelessness which cannot be understood by those who have never been homeless.

I nearly died and had open heart surgery and then made my way with two 40 lb packs up hills and literally had no food for days at a time. People raced by me in cars and I saw family after family with signs begging for work or help.  I continued to pray, for I had been raised to believe in God and hoped for a miracle.  My family support structure had collapsed. I lost most of my friends and my heart failed and somehow they rebuilt it. NowI live by the grace of God, everyday wanting to somehow make a difference for the poor and homeless of America.

Alone, I can’t do much. I finally found a program that got me a home and friends who set me up on a computer and paid for this site to be started.

As I lived among the homeless, I made friends and came to deeply care for those who sometimes were hard to care for because they did not really care for themselves, I realized the Homeless have no real voice in America. Now those friends, hundreds of them come up to me, and many tell me they are doing better, but more tell me they are not.

Homeless United  is not a way to gather money and make jobs for a special few. I am an author now and most of whatever I make will go to setting up centers across the U.S. to train and provide a program to open doorways to those who are willing to try.

Stories of those people, their feelings, their poetry, thoughts and ideas, and their victories, for there will be victories.,will be here. I am trying to open places in cyberspace where there will be databases and simple and much easier information to understand- so if you tonight have nowhere to sleep and you have no food to eat, and you are almost anywhere in America – we can change that. Well, I do believe in God very strongly and I should say whether or not it is popular, you are loved and cared for and your families as well by at least by one person who prays for you every night and is brought to tears sometimes as I see such suffering and pain in peoples lives.

I may not live to see tomorrow. But I hope my dream of there being a voice for the homeless in America will outlive me and one single torch lit will be carried by millions who after beginning a new life for themselves and their families- will help others… to help themselves.

John U.S. Veteran and Christian

Helping People Help Themselves.

THE VOICE

It is hard when you try and speak for someone else. Actually, it is impossible. Although it is the basis of government, people talking for you and acting in your best interest, at some point some stop listening.  The voice of the poor, has never really been expressed well except by guns, swords, violence, and revolution. Once a government had gotten to the point, i.e. France where they stormed the buildings and executed the leaders, it was too late to listen.

Most people who are starving, often ill, struggling with chemicals and mental and physical handicaps are not up to storming anything. Many live alone (the elderly) and may spend days with little contact and be found weeks after they pass on.  So, perhaps there is a need to be heard and reach the right people to create a new way which will listen in time.

That is our focus, besides trying to give information which can be accessed on a library computer, a friend’s laptop, anyway you can get to it.  And it must be simple.  If you have to deal with huge lists of links and things- if you are half out of it already, or confused, a click and a pencil and paper and leg power will get you where you need to go.

No fortunes will be made at Homeless United International. No vast army of employed people using up most of the money that should go into helping  people. Who is powerful? What is powerful? The media – senator and congressman. Recently I was involved in a single letter sent to request a cemetery for Veterans in Monterrey County. Just a small group, sending in one petition and now the land impact studies are being done and that cemetery will be built.

We need to love and care about each other. Although suffering is deeply personal and often one wants to just shut out the world and forget it, there are others who need us. Every one of you has talent, abilities, and you are special and important in your own way. Perhaps, it is a bad subject, but God loves you and he cares, and he works through other people and whatever you believe, you can be one of those people.

A hug at the right time, a prayer, a hand taking yours and eyes looking into yours and saying, it is going to be okay, you are going to make it… but most of all none of us can do what is needed to truly help someone else.

Pain, suffering, and loneliness is so deeply personal and can reach a point where it is unbearable. The choice is not to give up. But there must be a way and help to even start- to begin and see it is possible -as people help others to help themselves.

The poor will always be with you. [John 12: 8]

Late last night I was on the phone with a friend trying to start a new Internet news network. It would bring the news real time from over 15,000 reporters and the first broadcast would be an historical event. What would it be? A broadcast telling the poor, the hungry, and people, starting with the United States, a way to make contact with someone who can help them help themselves. Where would a large amount of money go from such a great work? To the poor.

We cannot teach anything to anyone, really, if they are hungry, struggling to survive, holding sick children, and wondering where they will sleep tonight. First we must feed them, clothe them, and help them find jobs so they can have dignity and be proud of what they do and each day look forward to the greatest gift of all – life.

Each day I pray for strength and another day so somehow we can inspire others to form a chain of hands held around the world determined to take up the challenge. Cain said “Am I my brother’s keeper?” when God asked him where his slain brother was.We are not keepers, we are makers. Makers of a better world and hope, not for only this generation, but for our children’s children’s children for a better future free from poverty, disease, and fear.

Our thanks to Dualtronics who has provided funding to help keep this site active
http://dualtronics.com/company

Without the love and support of friends and people once homeless, who during a time of personal crisis have shared their hearts and lives with me, physicians who have saved my life and given me a new heart and the strength to continue, this site would never have made it.

The work in the soon to be chapter C corporation which will help the poor and the homeless continues. In Second Life, the women’s study, the freebie shop, and the data base which will enable any person in the U.S. to find food, shelter, or jobs continues. It is truly impressive that if you don’t have food and are starving and can get to a library computer, you can get help. I have lived and worked with the homeless and the veterans and I have seen the face of hunger and despair. Some have died and there is a small graveyard in San Jose and recent deaths of people who have lost everything and then their lives, laying in the dirt, in the bushes, alone as the rain came down.

I have worked in the area of feeding and trying to help the homeless since I was 7 years old and first became a Christian and was baptized. My best friend’s father was a Baptist minister and we folded clothes and worked in preparing food at

http://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-…/…/shelter.cgi…

Many called them drunks, drug addicts, and mentally ill, and yet I have seen peoples lives changed as they have risen from being homeless, to start new families, and new lives- after a complete collapse. We have sat together and prayed and found strength and I must say- hundreds of the poor have been my best friends- caring about me, loving me, and standing with me when I was a bit unable to do much of anything.

So, it is my calling to do this. I hope you will come to the site, comment, suggest how it may be improved and understand this is a new work like any other. For one, it may give a voice to poor and homeless where they have never had one really in history. Perhaps many feel secure and and confident and are not touched by this suffering- but I am and always will be and know many of you out there are homeless or may be homeless, poor, and need food.

So, we continue to try – to help others learn and have the resources, to stand up and help themselves.

January 16, 2015 Update – Although there were many places offering dinners for Christmas, the plight of the homeless and need for help for those dying in the streets with no shelter is never finished. People who were never homeless before, a vast army of the unemployed, the disabled, the elderly, and those who simply need the resources and contacts to help themselves may find it here. There is also a mission in Second Life, the computer simulation, which should be finished soon. We ask for your prayers and well wishes. Merry Christmas and there have been problems on this site with date changes. We know it is Christmas and December. Also the RSS feed was blocked and we are now unblocking it so you can comment.

It is not Christmas that matters so much- it is the day after Christmas. After all, Jesus was not born on Christmas but during the Spring and the day itself was created to replace a Pagan Holiday Saturnalia. As we grow older, it would seem the poor, the homeless, and even a few who are mildly confused. Most charities give christmas dinners – but what happens the day after Christmas. Five people died here near San Jose a few days ago and a woman wept as she told the story.

Even though there are world situations and crisis, as Jesus said “the poor are always with us.” It is a day of great sadness for me and one I begin in prayer for strength and determination – for I see the faces of the homeless in my dreams and their children. Perhaps my own life is of little consequence and yet I can never rest or be at peace as long is there is one person without a place to sleep or food to eat, or a single child who dies from hunger and disease when we could have prevented it. There will always be wars, and rumors of wars, and the dark side – yet some can rise from the darkness and with the help of God and their own faith begin a new life for themselves and their families.

As for war – I simply wish that the armed conflicts around the world would cease. Those who die, especially those caught in the crossfire and who are innocent, suffer and mourn their dead. If I had have one prayer answered today from God – it would be a request for peace and somehow an end to the conflicts which tear us daily around the world.

Update – the links are now working for Feed Me, Give Me Shelter, and Jobs. The first two are maps of the U.S. which give locations of Food Banks and Shelters. The last, Jobs, not only will give places where people with no college degree can find work, they also have support services for making resumes and many other organizations. Thanks to the people who have compiled and  maintain these sites. Other resources here are underconstruction including support for abused women and support for the disabled and elderly.

Some of the links here need to be fixed and I am working on that. Basically this is meant to offer anyone in the United States instant information on getting food, housing, and jobs. Perhaps not all are computer skilled but here all you need to do is point, click, and read. Housing lists and places to find almost anything in the world are also here. Our presence is refelcted in the world of Second Life through various locations and also churches which offer auditory (headset) church services, praying and worshipping God. Yet, the most basic needs, and Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount told us we are to help the poor, the hungry, those in prison, the widows, the orphans… and the homeless.. yes Jesus was homeless his whole ministry. He was poor and had few clothes and even his tomb was a gift. It is overwhelming to look at the face of the homless and the families who need not just a hand out – but a hand helping them to help themselves…

On Septemeber 19, 2014 DrKarl had a serious heart issue and yet has returned to continue working in Facebook, on the site, and in SL on the two churches.

Someone who has worked with the homeless suggested I put up a Mission Statement here.

It has two important parts.

1) One so that any homeless person who can get to a library and has the most basic skill or can help, can find food or a place to stay, in less than 7 clicks of the mouse.  This whole site is designed for that level of simplicity.

2) It my goal to somehow make enough money to buy all of the KOA campgrounds in America and make them training centers and provide abuse counseling.

http://koa.com/

Perhaps they can still a place for campers and some of the space be shared. These would be training centers.

Those who wish to try, will have to give up substances, alcohol, and have others who are trying as well, to help themselves. I can help no one. I am not rich, I am not famous, and I am not young; but I am sure this is the will of God to do this, and somehow whether I am still here or not, he will find a way.

Today September 6, 2014

Work continues getting the retreat ready for the public. DrKarl and Free Spirit though a bit tired and needing sleep, continue, with Free Spirit making suggestions about the women’s study area, and DrKarl building the Wedding by the Lake chapel. The idea of bringing a place on the net where those needing help finding shelter, food, and whatever they need for a reasonable price with a few mouseclicks, is here.

Hunger in the United States

Five years after the onset of the financial and economic crisis, hunger remains high in the United States. The financial and economic crisis that erupted in 2008 caused a dramatic increase in hunger in the United States. This high level of hunger continued in 2012, according to the latest government report (with the most recent statistics) released in September 2013 (Coleman-Jensen 2013).

  • In 2012, 14.5 percent of households (17.6 million households, approximately one in seven), were food insecure (Coleman-Jensen 2013 p v.).  This percentage is the same as 2008, and has been the highest number recorded since these statistics have been kept (Coleman-Jensen 2013, p. v).
  • In 2012, 5.7 percent of U.S. households (7.0 million households) had very low food security. In this more severe range of food insecurity, the food intake of some household members was reduced and normal eating patterns were disrupted at times during the year due to limited resources (Coleman-Jensen 2013, p. v) .
  • Children were food insecure at times during the year in 10.0 percent of households with children. These 3.9 million households were unable at times during the year to provide adequate, nutritious food for their children  While children are usually shielded by their parents, who go hungry themselves, from the disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake that characterize very low food security, both children and adults experienced instances of very low food security in 1.2 percent of households with children (463,000 households) in 2012 (Coleman-Jensen 2013, p. v-vi).

Throughout the U.S. homelessness continues to be a national problem. The financial crisis of 2008 was a major contributing factor as well as the lack of affordable housing, mental illness, alcoholism, poverty, and dysfunctional families. National statistics on homeless are staggering with data suggesting over 1.5 million Americans use a shelter or transitional housing during the year. The National Alliance to End Homelessness estimates nearly 700,000 Americans experience homelessness on any given night in the U.S. The Federal government has made strides to limit an increasing homeless population, but the problem continues, many times unnoticed in local smaller communities.

There is a special section for getting help in abusive situations, others for jobs, food, and bargains almost anywhere on earth, even in the native language of most countries in the world.. You are only a few clicks away for Homeless United to help you to help yourself. That is the best way- for you need to have confidence, vision, courage, and perhaps even someday you will become the helping hand reaching down to help others  first stand, and by faith and a renewed life – make the first steps to finally begin a new life, for themselves and their children.

The new faces of the homeless.

No fortunes will be made at Homeless United. No vast army of employed people using up most of the money that should go into helping  people. Who is powerful? What is powerful? The media – senator and congressman. Recently I was involved in a single letter sent to request a cemetery for Veterans in Monterey County.

  5. One advantage that Google+ has over Facebook is if you post one of
the links with an article or website, it can be shared
and viewed globally, or throughout the Google+ world enabling you to target specific
messages to specific audiences. Should you choose to that isn’t extremely popular, you will not make
very much money coming from all of the effort. Plus last I checked,
most from the major programs be determined by Google’s data for
at least a few of their operations.

  6. Hello admin, i see your blog needs fresh articles.

your intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could be giving us something informative to
    read?
